Volcanic White Island and Whakatane pictures are now in the gallery.
I’m still in Auckland job hunting; internet access is quite cheap here so I’ve seen some of the election coverage. Good to see Sarah Teather keep my constituency Brent East and a bitter attack on the government from George Galloway winning in Bethnal Green. Otherwise a boring, and in many ways disappointing afternoon.
Interesting to see how the Government have fiddled the constituency boundaries so that they can get an overall majority with only 36% of the vote. Our electoral system is not just corrupt, it’s downright misrepresentative.

It’s strange; three months ago I was fresh off the flight from Tokyo and Auckland felt like a small, relaxed kind of town. Now, after travelling most of the rest of the country it feels like a bustling and highly-strung metropolis. Perhaps a taster of how I’ll feel when I finally get to Sydney or even back to London. I’m here because there’s a whole lot more short-term IT work than anywhere else in the country and I’m seeing a recruitment consultant tomorrow.
Some pictures of Napier, Gisborne and the edge of the world at the East Cape are now in the gallery. Last week I visited the actively volcanic White Island and the towns of Whakatane and Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty. Those photos are on the way.
