A wise man once said that you never get something for nothing; in the last week the rise of spring in New South Wales has brought with it a definite downside in the form of small airborne creatures who seem to think I’ll make for a tasty meal. Why they pick on me in particular I don’t know; no-one else seems to be suffering. Still, thanks to a local pharmacy they may soon find themselves with a belly ache.
Also in the last week I’ve decided that I absolutely love cricket. Strangely, much of the population of Australia has simultaneously decided that it’s not such a great sport after all.

I crawl out of bed after an impromptu mexican themed night with Tequila, Old El Paso and Sangria, get the shorts out and catch the ferry to Manly for a day in the hot spring sun.

My psyche is still having trouble with the concept that it’s September and early spring. Sydney’s midwinter climate feels like a cold summer to an Englishman so the idea that it’s now getting hotter is confusing as well as appealing. Spring certainly does seem to be in the air now; the last week or so has been noticeably warmer and I’m sure by the end of the month my coat will be relegated to the bottom of my rucksack.

So Mohammad Sidique Khan says that ordinary Britons are responsible for the errors of our government’s foreign policy. How dare he kill innocent Londoners simply because he has a dispute with the government? That would be like us killing innocent Iraqis because we had a dispute with Saddam Hussein…. oh, damn, we did that. But then the allied armed forces in Iraq aren’t morally equivalent to suicide bombers are they? Suicide bombers are pure evil, they do things like embezzling money and raping children…. oh dear, well… that’s not the point though is it, we meant well, didn’t we?
